AARP Vermont is helping to launch a coalition of senior center and meal-site directors to provide a forum for sharing best practices and opportunities for training and networking.

The idea got off the ground in October, when AARP organized a conference for 50 of the state’s senior center and meal-site directors. A steering committee will meet regularly to address management issues such as fundraising and programming. Coalition members want to make their issues more visible to state and local governments and have a voice as an organization that serves thousands of older people across the state.

“Vermont senior centers face limited resources, transportation problems, growth restrictions—and the list goes on,” said Jeannie Tucker, AARP senior operations associate. “AARP will continue to bring these organizations and leaders together in ways that help them better achieve their missions.”
