As part of the Baton Rouge Sustainable Transportation Advisory Committee, AARP Louisiana is working to transform roads in East Baton Rouge Parish into “complete streets” with sidewalks, bicycle lanes and safe crosswalks.

Louisiana is the third most dangerous state in the nation for pedestrians, according to the Transportation for America coalition. About 15 percent of all traffic deaths in East Baton Rouge Parish in 2009 were pedestrians. AARP is urging the Metropolitan Council to pass a complete streets city ordinance. To help with this effort, go to aarp.org/getinvolved.
