When AARP WI held a local livable community discussion to find out what would improve locals’ day-to-day lives in their neighborhood, residents voiced concerns about pedestrian safety and making streets safer. See how AARP Local WI, AARP WI volunteers and community partners took to the streets to address pedestrian safety locally.
We know how impactful $1,000 can be. This is our way of extending some seed money to get these projects off the ground. Next deadline: September 27, 2025.

More than 1 million Wisconsinites provide care to a family member or friend with complex medical conditions or disabilities. That’s nearly one quarter (23 percent) of adults across the state. Nearly 60 percent of family caregivers in Wisconsin provide care to someone who has a long-term physical condition.
We recently learned the Milwaukee metro area is the 41 st most dangerous of the 51 largest metro areas in the nation, according to a new report by the National Complete Streets Coalition, a program of Smart Growth America.
If you ask people if they feel financially prepared for retirement, most will say “no.” Even those who have saved throughout their working lives are not confident with the amount of money they have set aside.
The quality of our lives now and in retirement depends on making the best use of our resources, yet few actively seek out financial information.
According to recent AARP research, roughly 63 million Americans volunteer with an organization in their community every year. That is an astounding number of individuals who give freely of their time, energy, and passion to help individuals in need and strengthen our communities.
The numbers are in, and they are impressive – Wisconsin residents on Medicare saved $174.3 million on their prescription drugs in 2013, thanks to the closing of the “donut hole” for prescriptions under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) – or an average discount per beneficiary of $890.

Today we are thrilled to announced that Joel Rubin, 65, of Allouez (Green Bay area), has been appointed to a two-year term on our AARP Wisconsin Executive Council. The appointment was made by AARP Wisconsin State President Dave Stella.
Just a reminder that open enrollment for health coverage through the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Marketplace ends on Monday, March 31. If you don’t have health coverage, you can sign up through the end of this month and avoid a penalty.
