With Week 4 in the books, we are nearing the half way mark of the 2016 South Dakota legislative session and AARP South Dakota is working on issues important to our 50+ population in South Dakota. First, thank you for a great 2016 AARP South Dakota Lobby Day.  Nearly 200 AARP South Dakota members and volunteers visited the Capitol on Tuesday.  We had lunch with 75 legislators and a fun group picture with the South Dakota Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.  AARP South Dakota’s presence was felt in the Capitol and our successful lobby day will certainly have a strong impact on our legislative efforts throughout the rest of the 2016 session. It’s cold. It’s snowy and windy. It’s January.  So that must mean the 2016 South Dakota legislative session has started.  Once again, AARP South Dakota is in Pierre to work for you. Governor Daugaard presented his FY 2017 Budget Proposal to a joint session of the South Dakota Legislature on Tuesday, December 8.  The budget proposes a total of $4.837 billion in spending through a combination of state, federal and other funds.  Included in the Governor’s budget is $373 million in federal funds to provide for the expansion of Medicaid if the state and the federal government can come to an agreement on reimbursement rates for Native American health care. AARP South Dakota Legislative Wrap-Up 2015 South Dakota Legislative Session The main run of the 2015 South Dakota Legislative Session has ended and here are some of the issues AARP South Dakota worked on during the session that impacts the 50+ population in South Dakota. Sioux Falls Transportation Directory

Almost a year ago AARP South Dakota hosted a two-day brainstorming session for ways to improve transportation in Sioux Falls.  City leaders and non-profit organizations came together to discuss short and long-term transportation challenges and concerns.  One of the ideas that came out of the meeting was to create an all in one directory of transportation services in Sioux Falls.
