Free Summer Concerts Return to Veterans Park

JAZZ

AARP New Hampshire is helping to bring music under the stars to Manchester again this summer as the Gold Sponsor of free, family-friendly concerts in Veterans Park.

“We have little kids and we have 90-year-old kids—we run the gamut,” said Sara Beaudry of Intown Manchester, which promotes the TD Bank Summer Concert Series and other downtown events in the state’s largest city.

AARP will have information about its ice cream nights and many other local activities and programs at the Thursday night concerts, which run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. They begin July 14 with Foreigners Journey, a tribute band that plays the hits of Foreigner and Journey.

Permanent Vacation, which grew from a garage band in Windham, will headline the July 21 concert. Next up, on July 28, is a U.S. Army rock band, followed on Aug. 4 by Rockspring, a Boston band that performs a blend of bluegrass, rock and folk.
Vendors will sell food and beverages, and many concertgoers bring coolers and blankets for a picnic.

“It’s a very nice atmosphere,” Beaudry said.

If a severe thunderstorm threatens, the concert will be canceled. Find details at aarp.org/manchester or intownmanchester.com. —Joe Magruder
