Back to School Celebration, cosponsored by AARP Rhode Island, aims to fill 15,000 backpacks with school supplies for needy students, along with health and nutrition information for their families, this summer, ahead of the start of the school year.

Volunteers are needed for distribution events scheduled for Aug. 17 at 11 sites statewide. Many grandparents accompany their grandchildren to the event.

“A free, durable backpack filled with school supplies makes a big difference for struggling families. Volunteers love the role they play making this possible,” said Deborah Miller of AARP Rhode Island.
