El reconocimiento es nombrado en honor de la fundadora de AARP Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, quien fungió como la directora de la secundaria Lincoln de 1916 a 1944.

The award is named after AARP founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, who served as principal of Lincoln High from 1916 to 1944.
For her Dedication and Commitment to Community Service, Davis will be Awarded the Most Prestigious AARP Volunteer Award.

April 10 th marks the beginning of National Volunteer Appreciation Week 2016. Volunteers are an integral part of the work AARP California is able to do in the community, and our esteemed volunteers come to us from all over the state with different backgrounds and experiences, both professional and personal. Throughout National Volunteer Appreciation Week, AARP California will be highlighting volunteers who are sharing their time, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members and help us reach our goal of creating livable communities for all.
Yolanda Gonzalez -- a celebrated Chicana painter, art educator and punk rocker at heart -- was invited to be the inaugural artist for AARP in Los Angeles’s “Portraits of Community” project, an initiative that was inspired by a series of conversations held with residents of Los Angeles throughout 2015. The culmination of the first phase of this project will see Gonzalez’ artworks featured on three Metro buses, a Metro Gold Line train and Metro bus shelters around the city. (Additional artists from diverse communities around Los Angeles will debut distinct “Portraits of Community” artworks throughout 2016.)

Cuando le pregunta a Patricia Pérez por qué es parte de tantas organizaciones comunitarias, ella rápidamente responde que ella enfoca su trabajo voluntario en los temas que le importan más: las organizaciones no lucrativas, la creación de empleos, y el medio ambiente. Como el miembro más nuevo del Concilio Ejecutivo de AARP California, el equipo de líderes voluntarios que ayuda a dar forma y a ejecutar las prioridades estatales de la organización, ella tiene ideas para ayudar a mezclar estas tres áreas en su servicio.
Tenemos el gusto de anunciar que Blanca Castro se ha unido al personal de AARP California como Gerente Sénior de Abogacía. Ella está basada en nuestra oficina de Sacramento, localizada enfrente del Capitolio. En su papel, Blanca trabajará con el liderazgo de nuestro personal y voluntarios para desarrollar estrategias políticas para abordar los temas que afrontan los californianos de 50 años y más.
