As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. In Wyoming, Governor Gordon has declared a public welfare emergency to ensure that food assistance continues (for now), but this can still put pressure on local organizations and food banks dedicated to feeding hungry Wyomingites.

“Leap Day, 2020” was a great day for Richmond women (and a few brave men!) to “leap” into some new health and fitness lifestyles at the TRIVE, Women’s Health & Fitness Expo presented by local CBS affiliate WTVR, Channel 6. While convening and supporting events is a core part of AARP’s mission, we have changed our approach in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and canceled/postponed events managed by AARP. We are also closely monitoring postponing or suspending our involvement and participation of public events managed by outside organizations.
John Vajda exemplifies what it means to be a volunteer – and he isn’t new to it, either. He has been an AARP New Jersey volunteer for nine years, and before that, he spent 20 years volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a Scout Master, district and council committeeman and national Jamboree staff member.
