We’re excited to announce that seven organizations throughout Iowa will receive a combined $75,506 in 2025 AARP Community Challenge grants. The grants are part of AARP’s $4.2 million commitment to fund 383 quick-action projects nationwide aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages.
Advocating on behalf of Iowans age 50+ and giving you a voice at the State Capitol is a top priority for AARP Iowa. During the 2025 legislative session, we engaged on several bills with wide-ranging impacts related to housing, consumer protections, utilities, and more.
AARP South Carolina will advocate this year for lawmakers to increase the personal needs allowance in skilled nursing facilities.
With the state legislative session getting underway, AARP is advocating for Medicaid expansion, allowing an estimated 125,000 Mississippians to gain health coverage. The expansion would be largely funded by the federal government; Mississippi is one of 10 states that has not already done so, under provisions of the Affordable Care Act.

AARP Hawai‘i will hold a series of in-person brain health workshops in February, led by Amy Kelley, an AARP volunteer speaker and certified personal trainer.
AARP Virginia will be hosting a wide-ranging series of Black History Month events in February—from virtual presentations to museum visits and a cemetery tour.
AARP Wisconsin is working with leaders in cities across the state to address affordable housing challenges — including joining other advocates to host a Housing Week event in Madison, working with city leaders to study housing options in Appleton, and leading walking tours in Milwaukee. In 2024, La Crosse also passed an ordinance to allow the construction of accessory dwelling units.
With colder temperatures here, AARP Pennsylvania is working to ensure residents know about financial assistance to help with heating bills.
