AARP is urging state lawmakers to expand Michigan’s Homestead Property Tax Credit. The credit, which was claimed by 27 percent of all Michigan households in 2023, provides a state-tax refund for qualifying homeowners based on factors such as household income and a home’s taxable value. Renters can claim the credit, too, on the assumption that a portion of property tax is passed on to them in rent.

Median California home prices are projected to exceed $900,000 in 2026. AARP is making housing a top priority in the state legislature this year.

Lawmakers are expected to debate the Colorado AI Act, which requires companies that use artificial intelligence to follow guidelines to protect consumers. In 2024, Colorado became the first state to enact a comprehensive AI law. However, its implementation was delayed following complaints from about 200 technology executives and venture capitalists.
