Second Act–lifelong learning for older adults
When: Saturday, September 28, 2013, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
AARP would like you to know of the Colorado Senior Day being held on August 17th at Pueblo Community College Foundation, 900 W. Orman Ave. Fortino Ballroom, Pueblo Co 81004. Attendees may find information that is useful to them. Attorneys representing the Pueblo Bar Association will be giving various presentations from 8 am – noon (7:00 am – 8:00 am registration) on topics such as Elder Abuse, Grandparent Rights, Fraud, Identity Theft, Estate Planning, and more. There will be a room dedicated for guests to meet briefly with attorneys for legal advice that specialize in various elder issues. There will be another room devoted for vendor booths which will allow Colorado Senior Law Day guests the opportunity to learn about services in the Pueblo and surrounding communities. There will be a continental breakfast, free of charge. Contact Diane Porter at 719 549-3314 for pre-registration. Sitting is limited, and if you are interested in attending, we ask that you call for early registration.
The volunteers and members of the AARP chapters around the state, as well as the country, are amazing people who pitch in when help is needed. They engage people of all ages in their communities through volunteerism, they create lively and fun activities, and they raise money and collect food to help others in need, so it was devastating when more than 20 percent of our Black Forest Chapter members lost their homes in the Black Forest fire that started June 11. The fire took the lives of two people and caused tens of millions in property damage, according to local media reports.

According to statistics from the American Veterinary Medical Association, almost half of family dogs share their lives with at least one family cat. It’s been implied that dogs and cats are “natural enemies” but that’s not really true. Animals can learn who to treat as friends during early development, so dogs and cats that first meet each other as kittens and puppies will be more likely to get along.
