East Lansing is the fourth Michigan city to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. The city is drafting a plan to make the city more livable, with accessible transportation and housing, walkable streets and other quality-of-life improvements.
The neighboring city of Lansing joined the network in 2015. The age-friendly designation means a city has committed to improving factors such as transportation, public spaces, health services and social inclusion for people of all ages, according to guidelines established by the World Health Organization.
AARP Michigan initiated the age-friendly effort in East Lansing and will help the city meet the requirements.
