The excitement builds for the AARP-commissioned mural, Celebrando Comunidad, by local artist Elizabeth Reyes in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood! TODAY, bright and early, workers started to remove the existing paint off the walls of a proud neighborhood establishment, Nuevo Leon Restaurant. This, and a lot of work to come, is in preparation for the greatly-anticipated mural.
AARP is opening an exciting new outdoor fitness park at Lincoln Park in coordination with the Springfield Park District. If you live in the Springfield area, come join us for the celebration and ribbon-cutting!

PEORIA, Ill. — Dozens of AARP members, volunteers and other Illinois residents pleaded with elected officials Tuesday to take action to address the high cost of prescription drugs, the state’s fiscal crisis and rising property taxes which are preventing older adults from living comfortably in this state.
AARP Illinois is co-hosting a legislative breakfast with Bradley University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) so Illinoisans 50-plus can meet their state and local elected officials and discuss issues they care about. Residents of Peoria, Pekin and surrounding communities will hear from Congresswoman Bustos, and State Senators Koehler and Weaver. The legislative breakfast will be moderated by Brad McMillian, J.D. who is the Executive Director for the Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service at Bradley University.
