Easing the Burden on Family Caregiviers

To help family caregivers deal with the demands and stress of that unpaid job, AARP Indiana is hosting four Caregiver Connection events across the state.

All-day events on June 5 in Evansville and June 19 in Jeffersonville include a resource fair, panel discussion, breakout sessions and free chair massages. Evening events on June 10 in Valparaiso and June 26 in Indianapolis feature presentations by an elder-law attorney and a representative of the Area Agency on Aging.

In 2011, 1.34 million Hoosiers provided unpaid care for a loved one or friend, providing services valued at $9.4 billion—about four times as much as Medicaid spending on care delivered in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Indiana.
