Don Corrigan of Des Moines has been named winner of the 2016 AARP Iowa Andrus Award for Community Service, AARP’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award.
AARP Iowa is proud to introduce the 2016 Take a Stand Iowa field team. The Take a Stand campaign is candidates to Take a Stand on Social Security and form a plan to update it, not just for current beneficiaries, but for their children and grandchildren, and is inviting Iowans to get involved in the effort. Meet the team:
As the 2016 general election moves into high gear, AARP is mobilizing members and voters in Iowa and across the country to demand that all candidates have a plan to update Social Security for current and future citizens. Without updates for future sustainability, the benefits Social Security provides will drastically decrease for recipients by 2034, potentially by as much as $10,000 a year.
Motorists can sharpen their skills and possibly earn a discount on car insurance by taking an AARP Driver Safety class. You can take the Smart Driver course in a classroom or online to learn current rules of the road, such as how to navigate roundabouts, as well as defensive driving techniques, such as how to manage common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.
AARP Iowa is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to create a better community. The two programs, Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity's A Brush with Kindness, and the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity's Rock the Block!® work to revitalize neighborhoods while making homes safer, more affordable and accessible.
