Rock n' Ride for Veterans in Downey

Cycling

As part of this month’s national celebration of veterans, AARP in Los Angeles will honor the men and women who served in the military as association and community members participate in the Rock n’ Ride for Veterans, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 in Downey.

The event will feature music, rock climbing, bike riding and other family-friendly activities. AARP will host a bike-decorating booth and present a special gift to veterans who visit the booth.

“Our sponsorship of the bike-decorating booth and the gifts for veterans are more examples of AARP’s commitment to supporting the efforts of communities and cities to become great places for all ages,” said Stephanie Ramirez, associate state director of community for AARP California.

Becoming bike-friendly, she said, can improve a community’s safety and economy. AARP members’ entry fees for a bike ride will be waived if they register by calling 877-926-8300 toll-free or going to aarp.cvent.com/bikeforveterans.

AARP also will give members a free bike light when they bring their membership card to the bike-decorating booth.

Rock n’ Ride for Veterans will be at the Downey Civic Center, 11111 Brookshire Ave. To find out where to join AARP bike riders, go to aarp.org/losangeles. —Laura Mecoy
