As part of its ongoing efforts to fight fraud, AARP Maryland encourages members on the Eastern Shore to bring documents with sensitive information to a shredding event in Selbyville, Del., on June 27.

In addition, members are invited to sign up for watchdog alerts from the AARP Fraud Watch Network, which provides real-time notice of scams happening in the area.

Financial exploitation of older Americans is the “crime of the 21st century,” according to the National Council on Aging. Scammers often target older people who typically have been working and saving for decades.

For details on the shredding event, go to aarp.cvent .com/MDShred15 or call 877-926-8300 toll-free.
