AARP Maine and the health care collaborative Maine Quality Counts are supporting an effort to improve health care quality and reduce costs by eliminating unnecessary testing.

The Choosing Wisely campaign is sponsored by the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation, which worked with medical specialty societies to identify medical tests that may be unnecessary. Consumer Reports produced campaign materials for patients, including a poster called “5 Questions to Ask Your Doctor Before You Get Any Test, Treatment or Procedure.”

“Patients can use the questions to help guide conversations with their doctors about wise treatment decisions,” said Rich Livingston, AARP state president.
