Legislative Agenda: Caregiving, Guardianship

Caregiving Ad Council2

AARP Michigan has a robust legislative agenda lined up for the session that begins Jan. 14.

A top priority is passage of the Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act, which would better equip family caregivers to safely help their loved ones with medical tasks at home following a hospital stay. AARP advocates also will push for Michigan to become the 41st state to adopt the Uniform Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act to cut red tape for families when guardianship disputes cross state lines.

In addition, AARP Michigan aims to ensure that consumers have access to affordable, reliable home utilities and that veterans know about the benefits they earned through military service.

For more information on these issues or to get involved, call Careena Eggleston, AARP program specialist, at 517-267-8900.
