AARP Eye Center
Learn about the latest scams during a webinar hosted by AARP Minnesota on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m.
Consumer protection advocates will discuss the latest fraud schemes and how to avoid them. In the first three quarters of 2024, the Federal Trade Commission received more than 22,000 fraud reports from Minnesota consumers, with losses totaling nearly $103 million.
AARP is also advocating this year for the creation of a state restitution fund for Minnesota consumers who have lost money to scams. Money for a restitution fund would come from civil penalty payments in consumer fraud enforcement cases.
AARP will hold an online rally on Thursday, Feb. 13, to boost support for such a fund and collect stories of people impacted by fraud. To get more details about the fraud webinar and the rally, go to aarp.org/mn.
