AARP Eye Center
AARP Missouri is working with communities in the Kansas City area this month to make their streets and sidewalks more walkable.
Volunteers toting clipboards and cameras are canvassing their neighborhoods to assess traffic, evaluate road conditions and note improvements needed in sidewalks, crosswalks and signage. The volunteers plan to share this information with municipal leaders and transportation planners to improve pedestrian safety.
Anyone can conduct a community walk audit in his or her hometown, often in less than an hour. Start by downloading the AARP Sidewalks and Streets Survey, a step-by-step tool kit designed to simplify the process.
