Montana voters 45 and older overwhelmingly believe family caregivers should have the support services they need to take a break or keep a job. In a recent AARP survey, nearly 8 in 10 respondents said that is extremely or very important. Ninety percent of those who are caregivers said their role is critical to their loved one’s independence, and more than half said they have experienced stress.

The Huffington Post and AARP held a nationwide memoir contest open to any American born before Dec. 31, 1964, with a story to tell. They received thousands and thousands of responses, which the judges, including the Huffington Post’s Arianna Huffington, Huff/Post 50 editor at large Rita Wilson and AARP editorial director Myrna Blyth, narrowed down to 10 finalists, and finally just one grand prize winner. WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a new AARP survey released today, 8 in 10 say that taking a stand on Social Security is a basic threshold for Presidential leadership. The survey of likely voters age 50+ also shows nearly 40% are dissatisfied with their retirement savings and nearly half of voters worry they won’t be able to achieve their financial goals over the next five years (49%). 4 in 10 (40%) still don’t know for certain which party’s presidential candidate they’ll choose in the 2016 general election.

Helena, Mont., Jan 11, 2016 — Studies have shown that Americans aren’t saving enough for the future, and the risk of insufficient funds in retirement is especially high for Montana’s women. On average, women live longer, earn less, and spend more time out of the workforce caring for family than do men.

You’ve probably seen the ironic bumper stickers claiming “Dog is My Copilot.” It may be a play on words, but it’s also frequently true, especially during the holiday season. Idahoans all over the state will be making the rural-trek to see family and friends, with their “furry copilot.”
