Montana Enacts AARP-Backed Bill Allowing Property Tax Installment Plans
Helena, Mont., Nov. 19, 2024 – In a heartwarming and emotional reunion, 100-year-old Holocaust survivor Helena Stefaniak was granted her greatest wish: to reunite with her sister Barbara one last time. The sisters, who survived the horrors of Nazi Germany’s occupation of Poland during World War II, were reunited last summer through the efforts of Wish of a Lifetime, a charitable affiliate of AARP dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of older Americans.
In a state whose legislature convenes for only 90 days every other year, AARP Montana plans to hit the ground running when the next session begins the first week of January. The AARP state office will be pressing for legislation that affects more than 400,000 Montanans age 50-plus—including bills to support family caregivers, strengthen consumer protections and safeguard services that help Montanans continue to live at home as they age.
