State Asked to Address Caregiving Needs

AARP Mississippi is asking lawmakers to create a state task force on caregiving. The task force would address issues such as financial exploitation, respite care and aging at home.

The ratio of potential caregivers ages 45 to 64 to those who are likely to need care (age 80 and older) is dropping dramatically, according to the AARP Public Policy Institute. The current ratio of 7 to 1 is expected to drop to 4 to 1 by 2030. The number of people age 65 and older has grown by almost 11 percent in the last decade.
