The stress of the holiday season can be especially hard on family caregivers, and AARP Montana wants them to know relief is available. The Montana Lifespan Respite Voucher Program offers a break for Montanans who care for a parent, spouse or other loved one at home. Thanks to advocacy by AARP, grandparents raising grandchildren are eligible as well.

The program provides federally funded vouchers of up to $400 a year to pay for respite care, allowing unpaid family caregivers to run errands or take a little down time to care for themselves. The amount of each voucher is based on a sliding scale according to the applicant’s income.

For details or to apply for a voucher, call 800-224-6034 or go to dphhs.mt.gov/respite.aspx.
