AARP Nebraska and Shred-it, a company that specializes in document destruction, are sponsoring a community shredding event on May 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The effort aims to help Nebraskans safely dispose of unwanted documents as part of spring cleaning—and to keep their personal information out of the hands of identity thieves.

The free event is open to everyone—AARP members and nonmembers alike. Mobile shredders will be at the east end of the top-level parking lot at the Center Mall, South 42nd and Center streets, in Omaha. Residents can drive through and drop off personal documents to be shredded. (No business documents, please.) AARP volunteers will be on hand to help with unloading.
