A Sweet Offer on a Hot Summer Night

ice cream

Here’s the scoop: There’s free ice cream to be had this summer, courtesy of AARP New Hampshire.

Started in 2015, Ice Cream Nights have become a hot AARP summer gathering. Six events will be held in July and August at select ice cream parlors in Greater Manchester and other locations around the state from 5 to 7 p.m.

Attendees and one guest will receive a small cone (sorry, no toppings). Along with free ice cream, there will be a discussion of topics designed to be of interest to those 50 and older, such as livable communities and voter engagement. Ice Cream Nights are so popular that 400 people showed up at one last year, says Ashley Davis, associate state director of outreach and advocacy.

“It’s a sense of community and social engagement that keeps people coming back,” Davis says. Some people even try to “take a tour with us around the state,” she adds.

Resources and giveaways will be at a table manned by volunteers and staff outside each shop, rain or shine. There will also be listening posts, where attendees can ask questions.

Registration is not required, but it will help you avoid lines. To find an Ice Cream Night near you and to register, visit aarp.org/nh.
