New research from the US Department of Labor shows that one in four Americans between the ages of 44 and 70 are interested in starting their own business or nonprofit in the next five to 10 years.
In New Hampshire, AARP’s 2012 Member Opinion Survey shows that members in the age group 50 to 59:
- 17% are currently self-employed or own their own business;
- 12% are extremely or very interested in starting their own business and 1% has started their own business in the last two years;
- 23% are extremely or very interested in starting a new job or career; and
- 45% are extremely or very interested in learning about retirement alternatives such as second careers and phased retirement.
And for all these members starting their own businesses or “recareering,” AARP has a host of on-line resources to help you on your journey.
