AARP New Hampshire honored nearly 60 volunteers at a celebratory luncheon held Thursday, October 31 at the Manchester Country Club. The most prestigious volunteer award, the Andrus Award for Community Service, was presented to Katherine “Kaye” Heffernan, a dedicated AARP volunteer and community leader. Others honored were Andrus Award finalists; Driver Safety and Advocacy Volunteers of the Year; and Retired Educator of the Year.

Born in neighboring Massachusetts, this year’s 2013 Andrus Award winner graduated with a degree in mathematics from Northeastern University, taught high school math for one year, married her college sweetheart, and started traveling the world!

AARP New Hampshire is looking for an AmericaCorps VISTA to develop and implement a volunteer structure over the course of his/her service year.

What’s old is new again as Dick Chevrefils, retired from AARP in 2011, recently accepted the volunteer position of AARP New Hampshire State President. In this role, Chevrefils will lead AARP volunteers, collaborate with state leaders to ensure the achievement of AARP’s strategic goals, and continue to enhance relationships with leaders in business, government and nonprofits to meet the needs of the 50+ and their families.
