“Viva Broadway” event celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and leads off star-studded fall lineup of festivals, food, music and more

NEW YORK, New York —AARP New York kicked off a fall lineup of entertainment on September 19 with “Viva Broadway,” an intimate conversation with award-winning Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda in partnership with The Broadway league and The New York Times.

As Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15) begins, Miranda sat down with Times television editor Gilbert Cruz to discuss his wildly successful musical and what’s next for the groundbreaking producer and performer. The event marks the beginning of a busy fall season featuring AARP entertainment events across New York.

“Hispanic Heritage Month brings an exciting opportunity to highlight the stories and positive contributions that we Latinos in the United States make every day,” said Miranda.  “I am proud to continue collaborating with Viva Broadway and AARP New York in celebrating Latino artists, sharing my personal story and inspiring others to pursue their dreams.”

“We’re thrilled to have Lin-Manuel open a season of great events for AARP members and all New Yorkers,” said Yvette Martinez, AARP New York Associate State Director for community outreach. “From concerts and comedy to festivals and tours, we have something for everyone.”

AARP New York events coming up this fall include:

Long Island Comedy’s 50+ Comedy Tour , September-October (various dates): A series of shows at iconic Long Island venues featuring 50-plus comedies and highlighted by the 50+ Comedy Star Contest—a chance for aspiring performers to earn a spot on stage.
