Each month in 2025, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and passion to make a difference in the lives of older New Yorkers. From advocating for important issues to lending a helping hand in local communities, these volunteers embody the spirit of service and inspire us all. For the past three years, Francine Holland has been a dedicated member of the AARP Long Island volunteer team. Her passion for advocacy and commitment to meaningful causes have made a lasting impact on her community. Kathi’s commitment reminds us how one person’s efforts can create lasting impact for older New Yorkers.

For nearly a decade, Caryn has been a dedicated AARP New York volunteer in Brookhaven, Long Island. Her commitment shines through in everything she does—from supporting advocacy initiatives and conducting walkability audits to lending a hand at local events. Caryn’s friendly personality and tireless efforts have made a lasting impact on her community, helping create safer, more connected neighborhoods for all.

After retiring, Frank and Jean wanted a meaningful way to give back and stay connected to their community—and found their purpose with AARP New York. As part of the Westchester volunteer team, they support advocacy efforts and share valuable resources at local events. Their dedication and warmth make them an essential part of our mission, reminding us that volunteering isn’t just about giving time—it’s about creating connections and inspiring others to do the same.

As a dedicated volunteer with the AARP Fraud Watch Network, Alicyn has answered more than 1,000 calls—providing guidance and reassurance to people facing scams and identity theft. Her work doesn’t stop there; she also shares practical scam-prevention tips at local events, empowering others to protect themselves and their loved ones. Alicyn’s compassion and commitment make her a true champion in the fight against fraud.

After experiencing the challenges of caregiving firsthand, Dennis felt a calling to help others on similar journeys. In March 2024, he joined the AARP New York Speakers Bureau, where he leads presentations and connects with audiences through shared stories and meaningful conversations. His dedication ensures that caregivers and older adults feel supported, informed, and empowered every step of the way.

Since 2017, Dorie has led AARP North Hempstead volunteers with heart and dedication—organizing food drives, shredding events, and more. She also supported older adults nationwide as a lead volunteer with the Friendly Voice program during and after the pandemic. This year, Dorie is stepping down as team coordinator but continuing her service in new ways. Thank you, Dorie, for your incredible commitment to making a difference!

For over a decade, Donna has been a dedicated volunteer with AARP Long Island and now serves as the Advocacy Lead for the Islip team. She works closely with local elected officials to champion policies that matter to older adults and finds purpose in connecting with fellow volunteers who share her passion for making a difference. Thank you, Donna, for your leadership and commitment to advocacy!
