AARP Eye Center
AARP Long Island is hosting two events to help residents safely dispose of unneeded medications and to shred sensitive documents.
The free, drive-through “Shed-and-Shred” events will be held rain or shine on:
- Saturday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Clinton G. Martin Park, 1601 Marcus Ave., New Hyde Park. Register at events.aarp.org/shedshrednassau114.
- Saturday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Copiague Memorial Public Library, 50 Deauville Blvd., Copiague. Register at events.aarp.org/shedshredsuffolk1111.
The events are open to the public. Registration is required. For drug disposal, keep medicines in the original containers with prescription information visible but your name blocked out. Pet medications accepted. Among the items not accepted: syringes, liquids, thermometers, inhalers and lotions.
The limit for document shredding is three bags or boxes of paper per vehicle. The shredding truck will stay on-site until 1 p.m. or until it reaches capacity, whichever comes first.
Shredding old documents can keep your personal information out of the hands of scammers.
