Celebrate 80 years of Social Security with AARP and the Durham Bulls

Join AARP and thousands of Durham Bull fans on Thursday, August 13, when AARP will be celebrating Social Security's 80th birthday with some fun and excitement at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Enjoy a piece of free birthday cake, a commemorative photo of you and the ballpark, and of course the baseball action when the Bulls take on the Norfolk Tides at 7:00 pm. AARP has ten pairs of tickets to give-away to the first ten readers to e-mail us at ncaarp.aarp.org and tell us what Social Security means to you.

For many,

Social Security provides critical income support to those who need it the most. For older Americans and their families, the Social Security program provides a guaranteed lifetime stream of retirement income that keeps pace with inflation. The program also provides vital income to younger workers and their families if they can no longer work due to a disability, as well as critical financial support to their families should they die.

According to AARP’s Public Policy Institute, in 2013, Social Security kept 884,000 people out of poverty, who without it, would fall below the federal poverty level.

Come celebrate the program’s success and share your ideas on how to keep it strong for future generations. Hope to see you at the ballpark.
