Very Special Event for Cape Fear Area Family Caregivers

WILMINGTON --

213395

Family caregiving for relatives or close friends with chronic, disabling, or serious health problems so they can remain in their home is nearly universal today. In 2013, about 1.28 million family caregivers in north Carolina helped another adult loved one carry out daily activities ( such as bathing or dressing, preparing meals, administering medications, driving to the doctor visits, paying bills).

So what is being offered to support their needs? AARP and Cape Fear Region partners are hosting a very special day to provide information, resources and support to those taking care of loved ones. AARP and partners will be featuring the newest caregiver resources and services, and area experts will be available to help answer questions your caregiving needs.

This very special caregiver event is being held at the Thalian Hall Center for Performing Arts on August 11. Registration begins at 1:00 PM.   The program starts at 1:30 pm with a "Prepare to Care" workshop to help get caregivers and their families determine their caregiving needs and preferences before a crisis arises.

At 3:00pm, AARP will screen the PBS documentary: Taking Care of Mom and Dad with Meryl Streep followed by a caregiver expert panel to share insights and resources to help caregivers,

After the panel, the fun does not end. At 5:00 pm, join us for a special reception for caregivers and their families.

Host organizations for this event include: AARP-NC, Cape Fear Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging Family Caregiver Specialist program, UNCW College of Health and Human Services School of Nursing, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
