AARP Iowa invites local eligible non-profit organizations and governments across the state to apply for the 2026 AARP Community Challenge grant program, now through March 4. AARP Community Challenge grants fund quick-action projects that help communities become more livable by improving public places, transportation, housing, digital connections, and more.

During the 2026 state legislative session, AARP Iowa plans to engage in legislation across several key areas, including consumer protection, fraud prevention, financial security, long-term care, energy and livable communities.
An estimated 41% of American adults have lost money due to fraud or have had sensitive information obtained and used fraudulently. Scammers steal billions from consumers annually and fraud is a serious issue. AARP Iowa is committed to helping Iowans stay informed about how to avoid scams and where to find support and resources in the fight against fraud.
AARP Indiana and other consumer advocates are opposing a proposed electricity rate increase by AES Indiana, which serves the Indianapolis area.
AARP Community Challenge grant applications are open until March.
Shirley Sgouros, 63, of Baltimore, is AARP Maryland’s winner of the Andrus Award for Community Service, based on her dedication to her Upper Fells Point neighborhood and its residents. From picking up trash and planting flowers, to organizing culturally rich events, she brings neighbors together to celebrate the community.

Join AARP Rhode Island to engage with state lawmakers at its annual legislative reception on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 3 p.m. in the capitol’s State Room.
Starting this year, municipal and school elections will be held in June or November. Previously, they were typically held in April.
AARP Pennsylvania is pressing state lawmakers to enact a state-facilitated “auto IRA” program for private-sector workers without access to employer-sponsored retirement savings accounts.

As lawmakers return to Jefferson City this month, AARP Missouri will advocate for laws and policies that help residents 50-plus. Issues include:
AARP Vermont in 2026 will advocate for a tax credit for the state’s 70,000 family caregivers, as well as focus on cryptocurrency kiosk-related fraud to see whether lawmakers extend a moratorium on new crypto ATMs.
