AARP Oklahoma is hosting an interactive telephone town hall on February 1 at 10 a.m. CST to explain eligibility requirements for the tax credit for family caregivers, answer your questions, and share family caregiving resources.
“In advance of Governor Whitmer’s State of the State Address this week, AARP Michigan urges state leaders to provide relief for the estimated 1.73 million Michiganders who provide care for a loved one. We understand their struggle. According to an AARP national study, family caregivers on average spend $7,242 annually of their own income on caregiving. To ease this significant burden, AARP calls for the establishment of a caregiving tax credit that would help lessen the personal financial strain experienced by Michigan family caregivers across our state.
Beginning in February and continuing until the end of tax season, AARP Foundation is providing complimentary tax preparation across Idaho through its Tax-Aide program.
Winter is upon us and with temperatures plummeting in many areas, keeping the heat on is critical — a fact that fraud criminals try to take advantage of. Each winter, utility scams spike as scammers claiming to be from the utility company say you haven’t been paying your bill and they threaten to cut off service if you don’t make an immediate payment. The goal of these crooks is to create a sense of panic – when we react first with emotion, it’s hard to access logical thinking, and the criminals are adept with using this tactic. Their hope is that we stay in that state of panic long enough to complete a payment.

The second week of the Texas legislative session saw the unveiling of dueling budget proposals from House and Senate leaders who are starting negotiations over state spending billions of dollars apart and at odds over several key priorities. Both proposals fail to identify funding for a Lifespan Respite Program that’s considered invaluable to many unpaid family caregivers in Texas.
