I am not a preacher, and so this will not be a sermon. It is my testimony to what life has taught me about the importance of knowing and living my purpose in this one-time performance I get here on Earth. My purpose has been to help and serve others, to lead in advocacy for those who need someone on their side, and it is has been my way of life since I was a teenager on the South Side of Chicago. It has also included being a good son, brother, uncle, parent, and friend.

The AARP Vermont State Office is pleased to welcome a new member to their team, Colin Hilliard, who will serve in the position of Associate State Director for Advocacy and Outreach. As part of AARP Vermont, Hilliard will work on advocacy and outreach initiatives designed to enhance awareness and community relationships, while identifying and engaging volunteers in grassroots advocacy campaigns that support AARP’s policy goals. AARP Vermont strives to develop a presence in communities statewide through strengthening visibility, media presence, volunteer capacity, building community partnerships, delivering social impact programs, events, and activities and outreach to AARP members and their families.

SNAP is not just for households with children. It’s a federal program that offers assistance to adults of any age having a difficult time affording the food they need to maintain healthy lives. In Virginia, AARP is working to reach older people who may be eligible for these benefits and direct them to call 2-1-1 to sign up.
