Hungry in the West End, the senior hunger documentary produced by AARP Rhode Island is an Official Selection of the 2013 Melbourne, Australia International Web Series Festival. This follows the provocative series' Official Selection and Best Producer win at the 2013 Los Angeles International Web Series Festival.
AARP Rhode Island calls on members and volunteers to take part in this event organized by the Rhode Alliance for Retired Americans. Using the chained consumer price index (CCPI) to determine seniors' Social Security benefits will take an estimated $127 billion out of the pockets of current and future retirees in the next 10 years alone.
AARP Rhode Island continues to work with a coalition including the RI Women’s Fund and the Senior Agenda on a bill to establish a Temporary Caregiver Insurance (TCI) program for caregivers similar to Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI). With TDI, there is paid time off when you are ill – with TCI it allows time off to care for a seriously ill family member. As with TDI, it is totally funded by employee contributions. The current estimate is that each employee would pay an additional 83 cents per week to fund the program.
