Outsmarting investment fraud and learning how to be a part of the AARP Fraud Watch Network and all it has to offer are just two of the topics that will be discussed at the 18th Annual Western Summit in Hays on Thursday, October 6, 2016. Other topics include activities for seniors at the Hays Recreation Center, athletics at Fort Hays State University (FHSU), fraudulent practices in acquiring antiques, a presentation on relationships with China by Dr. Ed Hammond, education professor at FHSU, and information about Hays airport services.
The Community Idea Stations and OneVirginia2021 are joining forces to produce a statewide public television documentary, GerryRIGGED: Turning Democracy On Its Head. This one-hour documentary will bring awareness to the impact of gerrymandering, and explore how Virginia can progress from a system where legislators create their own districts toward a system that makes sense for true representative government.
Jackson, MS – The City of Hernando has been accepted into the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. The city was officially inducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at a ceremony at the Hernando Farmers Market, located at the DeSoto County Courthouse, 2535 Highway 51 South. The AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities helps participating communities become great places for all ages by adopting such features as walkable streets, better housing and transportation options, access to key services and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities. Hernando is the 119th city to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities, which was established in 2012. It impacts more than 56 million people.
AARP Driver Safety (ADS) is seeking a highly qualified person to serve as the next State Coordinator for Idaho. The current State Coordinator, Roger Wheeler, has decided to retire from the position. This is an unpaid volunteer position. Any ADS volunteer or individual outside of the program is welcomed to apply. Please refer to the attached position description for additional information.
Over 50% of those 65+ in the US rely on Social Security for most of their family income. Though America has evolved over the last 80 years, Social Security has not. With no change to current policy and spending, Social Security can only continue to pay out full benefits until 2034.

Today I joined volunteers and staff from Ohio headed to Washington to advocate on behalf of AARP members and all older Americans on the crucial issues of Family Caregiving and Social Security. While meeting with members of Congress, we carried these crucial asks:

Plan roll out begins in 2017 and will be fully operational by 2018
AARP Kansas staff, and volunteers from across the state, were joined by members of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new state office location on Friday, May 20th. The new office is located at 6220 SW 29 th Street, Suite 300 in Topeka. It's near the corner of 29th and Wanamaker and shares the building with the Community Blood Bank.
