Family caregivers are giving one of the most important gifts of all this holiday season – their love and care even while they hold down paid employment. New AARP Oregon research shows that many family caregivers are still in the workforce and doing double duty for their employer and their family members.
Here in Columbus our office overlooks the Ohio Statehouse and today, even with the frigid effects of the record-breaking polar vortex, the turnout to pay respect to Ohio’s own Honorable Senator John Glenn is a steady stream, expected to reach the thousands before the evening is over. AARP Ohio joins the nation and especially our great state of Ohio, as we celebrate the extraordinary life of Senator Glenn.

Could you be the next Louisiana State President? Nearly 500,000 members of AARP Louisiana are looking for an exceptional volunteer leader.
If one happens to walk past James Hipsher’s house, one might notice a wooden box supported on a post. It is behind the hedge row, but close enough to inspect. Its glass front is hinged, and inside the box is a piece of paper with poetry on it. The box is shared with the next door neighbor, and the two neighbors alternate months for posting. The poems are changed each Friday. When it is Jim’s month, he posts his own poetry.
AARP Connecticut is offering a free encore screening of the latest Movies for Grownups film selection, Collateral Beauty , tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 13), at 7 p.m. AARP Connecticut provided a free screening of the movie to a packed theater in West Hartford on Monday, Dec. 12
The Area Agency on Aging in Mobile is offering training and assistance to caregivers through their Caregiver College on Wednesday, January 18 from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. This FREE class for caregivers will be held at the GM & O Building, 110 Beauregard St., Second Floor Training Room, Mobile, AL 36604.

It’s panic time. Christmas and Hanukkah are here and the frenzy of holiday shopping, checklists and bills is mounting. It’s a time of good cheer, smiling faces, and good will to all. Sorry folks, but it’s also time for the Grinch! The scammers are out and about spreading holiday gloom in a number of ways so let’s take a look at the short list of do’s and don’ts.
