Protecting Caregivers From Scams 101

Have you ever gotten a suspicious text or phone call from someone needing money or access to your financial information? How about a new love interest wanting gift cards in order to come to visit?

Have you gotten a pop-up on your computer that says it has a virus and someone needs to take over your laptop to fix it?

Those are scams!

An AARP report shows scams targeting our 50+ community continue to go up. Federal data shows the highest ever year-over-year rise in fraud reports between 2019 and 2020. Many cases do not get reported.

So, what can you do to keep yourself and the person you care for from becoming a victim of fraud? Here to talk to offer us some tips and look inside what scams are the most used, is Jennifer Salazar, Texas SMP Program Director with the Better Business Bureau Education Foundation.
