June is LGBTQ Pride Month, and AARP is supporting Houston’s LGBTQ community with new podcasts focused on helping family caregivers.
The episodes will include practical, realistic resources, said Juanita Jiménez-Soto, AARP in Houston’s communications director, noting that nearly 1 in 5 adults care for a family member or friend over 50.
“This information is especially important for members of the LGBTQ community who may find themselves estranged from their biological families and be less likely to have the traditional caregiver support that adults rely on,” Jiménez-Soto said.
On Monday, June 14, AARP’s Prepare to Care podcast will feature a member of the Montrose Center, which provides resources to LGBTQ individuals. Then on Monday, June 28, the podcast will spotlight caregivers sharing their personal stories of looking after a loved one and the obstacles that they faced.
The podcasts will be available at aarp.org/houstonptc as well as on websites such as SoundCloud.com and via Apple’s podcast app. A Spanish-language version can be found at aarp.org/sabesque.
Previous episodes are available and focus on mindfulness, veterans, fraud prevention and more.
