Digital Coach: Where to Get Help

Ipad Icon

Digital literacy isn’t just about Internet shopping and social media. Increasingly, programs such as Medicare, Social Security and the Virgin Islands Government Employees’ Retirement System are moving to paperless communications.

Virgin Islanders who are not comfortable online can get help from a younger, digital-savvy generation. Through the AARP VI Digital Coach Program, local high school students are teaching people about triple their age how to use digital media. The training is free, and it helps students satisfy community service requirements.

Internet use is increasing among older Americans, with nearly three-fourths of those ages 65-69 logging on. But the percentage drops dramatically for those 75-79 (47 percent) and 80-plus (37 percent).
