October 29 not only highlighted the 50th Anniversary of Franklin County, AARP Chapter 508. The spotlight also shone brilliantly on Mrs. Nora Wade! Members, friends and family celebrated her 93rd birthday with songs, praises and blessings!

In Virginia more than 1 million family caregivers provided an estimated 870 million hours of care — worth a staggering $11.2 billion — to their parents, spouses, partners, and friends in 2017, according to state data available in the latest report of AARP’s Valuing the Invaluable series. The complexity of family caregiving increases as medical and nursing tasks continue to enter the home, and family demographics change amidst an aging population.
Retiring from a four-decade career at USAA in 2016 did not slow things down for Gwen Parker. And with nearly two years of volunteering with AARP now under her belt, she continues to stay bright-eyed and busy in her Virginia Beach community.
MCLEAN—The portions were generous. The conversation was far-ranging. The mood was friendly and welcoming. It was the third Monday of the month and about a dozen diners were schmoozing over sandwiches and salads at Mylo’s Grill in McLean.
About 40 people attended the AARP Smart Driver Program on October 14-15 at the West Neck Community Center. Lunch was provided on both days.
