AARP Virginia has canceled the 97th District candidate forum that was set to take place between Delegate Michael Feggans and former delegate Tim Anderson on Tuesday, September 23, at the Kempsville Area Library in Virginia Beach.

The Bangladesh Association of America, Inc. (BAAI) recently concluded their Annual End of Ramadan Food Drive for the ninth consecutive year. They collected over $7,000.00 and more than 150 pounds of canned and dry food. On Wednesday, June 26, 2019, they hosted a handing over ceremony were they donated their food drive collection to The Ecumenical Community Helping Others (ECHO).

Their stories were sad and poignant. And there was some humor as well. Caregivers had a chance to tell their stories at the AARP Listening Session on Tuesday, May 7, at the Montclair Community Library in Prince William County.
Cynthia from Richmond, Virginia selflessly gave up her career and livelihood to become a full-time caregiver to her husband, Jim, who has multiple sclerosis (MS), is a quadriplegic and only has mobility with his head. As her husband’s condition progressed, Jim became physically dependent and needed greater assistance to take care of his needs. Cynthia and Jim looked into hiring a caregiver, but with limited finances, the cost was too great. This was when Cynthia decided to put her career aside to become his primary caregiver.

Grandkids played “pluck a duck” to win prizes of their choice and walked away with backpacks provided by AARP Virginia. Grandparents were provided free admission and everybody attending Grandparents Appreciation Day at the Virginia Museum of Transportation got free ice cream also provided by AARP.
