AARP Virginia hosts a monthly Free Coffee Fridays on the first Friday of each month in Loudoun County. The event is an opportunity to socialize and focuses on educating the community on how to handle situations pertaining to fraud. The next Loudoun County event will be 8-10 a.m. Friday, April 5 at Ridgetop Coffee and Tea, 21631 Ridgetop Circle, Sterling, VA 20166.
AARP Virginia has hosted several Scam Jams and Shred Fests in the Northern Virginia area recently. On Oct. 11, the event that shines a light on fraud and scams was held in Woodbridge at the Harbour Grille. Immediately following the half-day event, attendees could shred their documents outside at a shred truck.
One in five Americans is a family caregiver and over half live in multigenerational households, according to a 2021 AARP Home and Community survey. The need for family caregivers is likely to increase because of two conflicting factors: More than 70 percent of seniors will need some type of long-term care, yet 90 percent of adults over 65 want to remain in their own homes and age in place.
