AARP Virginia has presented Warren Stewart of Norfolk with the President’s Award for Community Service and introduced Melvin Evans of Windsor as the organization’s volunteer State President.
AARP Virginia has presented Denise Coates of Herndon with the 2016 Gordon Morton Award for Volunteer Service and Bob Blancato of Arlington with the President’s Award.
While enjoying this holiday season it’s important to remember to take the time to give to the less fortunate members of the community; which is why AARP volunteers are giving back at this year’s Community Christmas Dinner. Starting at 11 a.m. in Christmas Day at the Community Market, located on 629 Craghead St. Danville, VA 24541, AARP will provide free resources on important topics including caregiving, fraud and housing while guests can enjoy a warm meal.
Winter is a difficult time for senior home-bound neighbors, some having to choose between heat and food. AARP Virginia and LOA want to help make their lives easier by ensuring their shelves are stocked with soups and other non-perishable food items. All it takes to make a difference is to start a collection then drop off the non-perishable items to a drop off site from February 6-10.
With only a few days before the final Presidential debate, Northern Virginia AARP volunteers joined with AARP staff and volunteers from the national office and other states to ask Fox News, the debate sponsor, to question the presidential candidates for their positions on funding Social Security.
