Volunteer Facilitation & Training Team Member

Position Description

The Volunteer Facilitation & Training Team (VFTT) works to increase training and facilitation capacity within AARP by providing volunteer-led training and facilitative services under the supervision and guidance of Office of Volunteer Engagement (OVE). Team members work in partnership with AARP staff and other volunteers to deliver learning and development experiences for volunteers at all levels of the Association, in particular the community, that support AARP’s strategic objectives. VFTT works closely with the Office of Community Engagement (OCE) to bring relevant training and resources to staff and volunteers working in local communities.

Responsibilities


  1. Serve as a member of the Volunteer Facilitation & Training Team (VFTT)
  2. Partner with OVE and OCE staff, other VFTT members and state and regional staff in supporting state/community volunteer engagement efforts, including the possibility of being a volunteer liaison to a region.
  3. Develop an understanding of and promote AARP’s strategic priorities, especially at the community level
  4. Promote the VFTT as opportunities arise
  5. Develop and deliver timely, skilled and effective facilitation and training services
  6. Assist in the development of state and community-level curricula for skill building and issue-based training
  7. Use online training technologies
  8. Submit timely periodic reports and expenses

Needed Skills


  1. Demonstrated experience in successful facilitation and coaching
  2. Familiarity with interactive, engaging training curricula development
  3. Familiarity with adult learning principles
  4. Understanding of AARP’s volunteer and community engagement practices
  5. Ability to manage complex group dynamics
  6. Demonstrates initiative, creativity and willingness to adapt to changing situations
  7. Confident user of email and Microsoft Office
  8. Ability to develop and implement culturally relevant training and facilitation services
  9. Experience in developing and conducting training using virtual technology, helpful
  10. Deep understanding and knowledge of other cultures, bilingual (particularly Spanish), helpful
  11. Understanding and experience in working with the Veterans community, helpful
  12. Understanding and experience in working with the LBGT community, helpful

Qualifications


  1. Current or past AARP volunteer/staff experience helpful
  2. Willingness to travel
  3. Effective communication skills, including interpersonal, writing and presentation skills
  4. Ability to work as a team player and support the development of other volunteers and staff
  5. Access to a computer and internet

Term of Service and Length of Service
Term of two years, maximum of three terms

Time Required
Assignments to be determined in conjunction with the National Volunteer Training Leader, but will include preparation time and travel. Review and development of curricula content as needed. Though subject to change, anticipate 12 - 24 hours per month, depending on travel needs.
