In 2019, Washington became the first state to pass legislation creating a public long-term care insurance program. In doing so, we are leading the way in addressing a nationwide crisis: an aging population in which the vast majority lack the financial resources to pay for the care they need as they age.

The Dementia Action Collaborative started a Dementia Friends program in Washington to raise awareness about the disease and offer support.
BILL STATUS UPDATE: House Bill 1087 passed the House on Feb. 21 (see AARP Statement) on a vote of 63-33. It passed the Senate on April 16 on a vote of 26-22 (see AARP Statement). The House concurred with Senate amendments on April 23, clearing the way for Governor Inslee's signature.
