AARP Washington and more than 40 other advocacy and community service services organizations that advocate and serve thousands of older adults in King County and the State of Washington are deeply concerned that United Way’s new funding priorities will no longer include investments in programs that serve older adults and people with disabilities.
When former music teacher Pat Gray decided to retire, she imagined a life of leisure. Instead, Pat heard a different calling from her local community in Kent and it resulted in a Life Reimagined.
The Washington State legislature recently passed a Senate Bill 5186 that increased the qualifying income from $35,000 annual gross income to $40,000 for the senior/disability property tax exemption starting in October, 2015. The income change is not retroactive, and will be applied to the 2016 property taxes and subsequent years.
Trudy James of Seattle never imagined herself as a filmmaker. She spent her career as a hospital chaplain and worked with AIDS patients for 20 years.
AARP donated $35,000 to assist with efforts to rebuild following the American Canyon earthquake in August. California Executive Council member Larry Saxxon presented a contribution of $25,000 to Director Terence P. Mulligan with Napa Valley Community Foundation and $10,000 to Executive Director Elizabeth Hoffman with Rebuilding Together Solano County. The funds are being dedicated to long-term recovery assistance after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Sonoma and Solano counties in Northern California on Sunday, August 24 – the largest earthquake to hit the area in 25 years.
